A scrotal ultrasound is the examination for morphological evaluation of testes, epididymis and a volume of fluid in the tunica vaginalis, as well as evaluation of blood vessels.
A scrotal ultrasound is performed in the following cases:
- pain in the testis or scrotum;
- after injury;
- if a testicular or epididymal tumour, hydrocele, spermatocele or varicocele is suspected.
The examination makes it also possible to establish the cause of the absence of a testis in the scrotum.
An ultrasound is an imaging method using ultrasonic waves. The technique uses the phenomenon of reflection of the ultrasound beam from the structures of organs.
- This is a non-invasive examination – it does not require any special preparation.
- The examination takes approximately 15–20 minutes.
- The result of the examination is given to the patient in the form of a medical report with an image. All the documentation is printed during the visit and the patient receives original documents. The description of the result is also available on-line.
- • There are no contraindications to perform the examination.
