This examination aims at assessing the development of the foetus. The assessment encompasses the body mass of the foetus and the pregnancy term which, in the first half of the second trimester, may be subject to an error of up to 10 days. In this period, there are also biometric examinations of the foetus, such as the biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), femur circumference (FC) and the assessment of organ structures.
The examinations also encompass the anatomy of the foetus; the skull, the nervous system, the spine, the abdominal circumference, the neck, the chest, the heart, the abdominal cavity, the limbs, the sex organs of the foetus and the condition of the placenta. The assessment encompasses the uterus and the appendages, as well as the amount of the amniotic fluid.
- The examination does not require any particular preparation.
- The examination takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
- The results are given to patients in the form of a medical description along with an ultrasound picture. The whole documentation is printed during an appointment and patients receive the original copy of their results.
- There are no contraindications to this examination. Ultrasonography is safe for both the mother and the baby.
