Standing X-ray of the Lower Limbs
This is a telemetric (measurement-based) examination of the lower limbs performed to visualise structural abnormalities of the lower limbs, pelvis, and hip joints. The examination allows for measuring leg length, determining height differences between the hips and knees, and visualising genu varum (bow-leggedness), a condition characterised by incorrect alignment between the femur and the lower leg bones.
Indications for the examination include e.g.:
- postural defects,
- genu varum and genu valgum (knock knees),
- joint dysplasia,
- fractures of the femur, tibia, or fibula,
- developmental limb abnormalities,
- leg length discrepancy,
- assessment of areas affected by disease processes such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
Preparation for the examination
No special preparation is required. You will need to undress to your underwear before the procedure. Depending on the referral, the patient must position themselves appropriately for the examination.
Important information
- Patients referred from outside the Medicover network are expected to present the referral in a printed form.
- Patients referred for the examination following an in-person visit at Medicover have either present a paper referral or ask for it to be printed at the reception desk.
- Patients who had a teleconsultation at Medicover are asked to inform reception that the referral was issued electronically.
X-rays are not recommended during pregnancy. Any X-ray performed on women of childbearing age should ideally take place within the first 12 days of the menstrual cycle (unless the doctor advises otherwise) to eliminate the risk of complications from a possible pregnancy.
Please note! A printed referral is required to carry out the examination.
