Multiple pregnancies require more frequent ultrasound examinations because they have a higher risk of complications than single pregnancies. The diagnosis of the type of pregnancy is made during an ultrasound scan performed in the first trimester.
The ultrasound examination of multiple pregnancies allows assessment of:
- the number of foetuses and their position,
- cardiac function and foetal anatomy,
- structure and position of the placenta,
- volume of amniotic fluid.
In addition, an ultrasound scan in pregnancy makes it possible to assess the risk of genetic syndromes, heart defects and other severe birth defects.
In the case of a twin pregnancy between the 11th and 14th week of pregnancy, an ultrasound may be performed together with the PAPP-A test – this is a test performed on a woman’s blood sample to determine the risk of chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus (e.g. Down syndrome). If you would like to book an examination, please call the helpline: 22 566 22 22 or take the opportunity to purchase it online.

Obstetric Doppler ultrasound is used to assess the placental flows and the foetal organs. The examination assesses the blood supply in various foetal structures and analyses the flows in small vessels which are not visible on standard obstetric ultrasonography.

Pregnancy ultrasound performed at appropriate periods is used to assess fetal development.
