Duplex Doppler ultrasound of the carotid and vertebral arteries
The examination allows for the assessment of blood flow in the cervical segments of the arteries supplying the brain and the detection of possible stenoses caused, for example, by atherosclerotic plaques. Early identification of atherosclerotic changes and the implementation of appropriate treatment reduce the risk of stroke.
This examination is similar to other ultrasonography examinations - the doctor applies the transducer to the area above the running artery, observes the blood flow on the monitor and measures the diameter of the artery as well as the speed and direction of the blood flow.
The doctor’s comments to the examination are available immediately afterwards.
