Angio-OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography) is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique used to assess the blood vessels and microcirculation in the retina. This advanced diagnostic tool is crucial for detecting and monitoring conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic retinopathy. It allows for the early identification of changes in the small blood vessels of the retina, even in the early stages of disease.
When is angio-OCT recommended?
- As a preventive measure for individuals with risk factors for eye diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of glaucoma, or smoking;
- In cases of suspected eye conditions such as glaucoma, AMD (age-related macular degeneration), diabetic retinopathy, or retinal vein occlusion;
- If you experience concerning symptoms such as reduced visual clarity, distorted vision (e.g. wavy lines), eye floaters, or sudden vision loss;
- For patients with diagnosed eye diseases to monitor disease progression and evaluate treatment effectiveness on a regular basis.
Important information:
- Safety and comfort: The test is completely painless and does not require the use of contrast dye, unlike traditional fluorescein angiography.
- Duration: The procedure typically takes only a few minutes and involves no special preparation.
- Pre-test preparation: In some cases, eye drops may be used to dilate the pupils, which can temporarily affect vision. It is therefore advised not to drive immediately after the test.
- Diagnostic value: Thanks to its high-resolution imaging, angio-OCT allows doctors to examine retinal microcirculation in detail and detect even subtle vascular changes, making it highly valuable for disease monitoring.
